Trafford Lock-In Gives Margy Headache

FC United of Manchester’s first team beat Trafford FC by three goals to nil in a closed doors friendly on Monday night played at Salford sports village.

With the weekend missing a competitive game the second of two closed doors friendly fixtures saw Margy field a full strength team against NWCL Division One rivals Trafford FC in a hastily arranged Monday night encounter.

A fresh looking FC United started the first half as you’d expect for a team without a competitive match in 16 days, creating several guilt edge chances only to be denied by a combination of good goal keeping and poor finishing.

Trafford’s defence was finally breached midway into the second half with a good through ball to Rhodri Giggs, who’s slide-rule ball found Jamie Phoenix in space to comfortably slot home.

FC United now with their tails up increased their lead as Liam Coyne rounded the Trafford keeper and found Simon Carden to pass into the net.

Moments later Margy’s men were three up thanks to good work by Giggs, whose searching pass caught the Trafford centre back off guard and off balance, culminating in an own goal for the unlucky defender.

It was a good display by the Reds, who’s fitness and application could not be questioned despite the lengthy lay off. FC United’s only concern for this Saturday’s (27th January 2007) NWCFL Challenge Cup match against Colne at the Holt House Stadium, will be "a selection headache"?? according to Margy who saw his team cruise to victory in a "good run out for the boys"??.
