Willoughby enjoying life at Broadhurst Park

Summer signing Kurt Willoughby is aiming to have another successful season in front of goal after a promising start to his FC United career.

Willoughby scored an impressive 33 goals in all competitions last season for Clitheroe with 26 of those scored in the NPL Division One North.

Despite jumping two levels, Willoughby has started where he left off and is already repaying the faith interim-manager Dave Chadwick had in him scoring 4 goals in 11 games already in the league this season.

Speaking about life at Broahurst Park, Kurt said: “Personally, I’ve really enjoyed it and met some good lads and made some new mates already. I feel fitter than I was last season, and a better footballer. Playing in better stadiums against bigger teams. The only thing is we haven’t been getting the results and that’s the only downside so far”.

He continued: “The biggest difference is the teams are a lot fitter and a lot stronger. I feel I have stepped up well and not looked out of place”.

The striker’s impressive start to the season has also caught the attention of England C team manager Paul Fairclough, who has selected Willoughby in his latest squad for their game against Estonia next Wednesday.

On being called up to represent his country, he said: “I’m really happy. It was a surprise to be honest. It just goes to show that you never know who’s watching and that you’ve got to be on your game every match, and just shows what can happen when you score goals as a striker.”

FC United take on Witton Albion tomorrow at Broadhurst Park in the FA Cup and Willoughby is excited about the prospect of a cup run.

Ahead of the tie tomorrow, he said : “We want to go as far as we can in the competition and winning would be a big thing to take into the league and I think the club can get a bit of money if we go far.”
