Margy hails Rudd and Rory

Manager Karl Marginson has hailed strikers Rory Patterson and Stuart Rudd ahead of FC United’s game against Atherton Collieries whilst announcing that new signing Jerome Wright is likely to be given his debut this Saturday.

Rudd took his goal scoring tally to 30 so far this season with a sublime hat-trick against Newcastle Town last Saturday and Patterson capped an impressive playmaking display with a superb individual effort that puts him on the 20 mark.

After a few below par weeks, Margy was keen to see his first choice strikers back in business. He said: "I thought Stuart and Rory were back on fire last week and if they perform like that I don’t think there’s anyone who can stop them at this level."??

Margy was particularly pleased with Patterson’s patient build up play which created chances for his team mates: "Sometimes, because he wants to win so much, Rory’s been trying too hard and sometimes it manifests itself in the wrong way. I had a word with him about it and to be fair he’s produced the goods."??

Full backs Shaun Roscoe and Liam Foster were also singled out for praise by the United manager: "I’ve been very impressed with the pair of them and with Maty Taylor and Alex Mortimer both doubtful they’ll probably keep their places in the team."??

Thankfully, with defensive cover in place, Margy can turn his attentions to the interesting problem of who to have out wide. He’s keen to try out former Maine Road winger Wright for the first time, but Josh Howard will be itching to get back involved following his one game suspension and Rhodri Giggs has a strong case for selection after coming off the bench against Newcastle to create one and score one.

Who gets the nod could well hold the key to unlocking the Cols defence according to Margy. He added: "Atherton showed great organisation at Gigg Lane, but we need to move the ball around more and get our wingers involved."??

Atherton Collieries versus FC United of Manchester is this Saturday 6th January at Leigh RMI’s Hilton Park Stadium, kick off 3pm.
