FC bid to topple title chasers once again

Saturday sees high-flying AFC Fylde visit Broadhurst Park for a match where both sides need the points for vastly different reasons.

The Coasters are 23 points ahead of FC United, sitting pretty in third place in the league and pushing for promotion. On the face of it, the points gap alone would suggest that FC will have their work cut out to gather the points they need to pull away from the wrong end of the table. However, Karl Marginson’s side will take great heart from the fact that in Harrogate, North Ferriby and Nuneaton his side has already beaten three of the top five teams in the league at Broadhurst Park this season.

The manager has no injury worries ahead of the clash with Fylde so will pick from a full strength squad: “The last two matches have seen us get back into our stride and playing a side currently third in the league should make for a good test and a good game,??? said Margy. Last Saturday against Worcester City, I thought we really improved after half-time and really settled into our own game. It’s all too easy in this division to get dragged into playing a similar sort of game to your opponents, but we are always better when we pass the ball around and try to play good football. We’ll be looking for that on Saturday,??? he said.

In the corresponding fixture in September last year, the Coasters ran out 4-0 winners after FC goalkeeper Dave Carnell was sent off. Margy’s men will be looking to show that the scoreline that night flattered their hosts and they come into this game after a magnificent home win against promotion chasers North Ferriby United two weeks ago.

The manager has strengthened his squad in the last few days with the signing of experienced utility man Dale Tonge, who is expected to feature in the squad line up on Saturday. As always, the supporters in the stands and on the terraces of what we can rightly call "award winning Broadhurst Park" will have a big role to play on Saturday afternoon.

Make sure that you play your part by getting yourselves to our football ground!
