Half Term - Salford Tournament

Young footballers in Salford will be coming together on Friday (27th October) when they compete for a new trophy, organised in partnership between Salford Community Leisure and FC United of Manchester. The tournament will follow over four days of half-term activities being delivered by sports development officers from Salford Community Leisure and FC United coaches.

The sessions, which are being held from Monday to Thursday, are free of charge and open to young people aged from 8 to 16 years. They include other multi-sport activities as well as football. Taking place at venues throughout the district, the sessions will conclude on Friday, with a tournament. The all-day football trophy event is at Salford Sports Village on 27th October. The tournament will see teams competing for the Salford Community Shield, which is being sponsored by FC United, in partnership with Salford Community Leisure.

"This is a great opportunity for young people in Salford to take part in sport and physical activity at a location that is convenient for them." said FC United’s Community Development Officer, John Thomason. "With the competition and chance of winning a trophy on Friday, there is everything for the players to train and play for during the week. I am confident that there will be good quality football on display."

The sessions come just days before the club’s "People United Day", which is taking place at its home game against Glossop North End (Sat. 28th, Gigg Lane) as part of the Kick Racism Out of Football campaign. The day will see young people from across Greater Manchester and beyond come together in a show of unity in the belief that people should be able to enjoy football without fear of intimidation or abuse. All under 18 year olds will be admitted free of charge.
