Shelton Payne signs for FC United from Trafford

Shelton Payne signs for FC United from TraffordFC United is pleased to announced that attacking midfielder Shelton Payne has signed for the club from our neighbours and fellow Evo-Stik Premier Division members, Trafford.

Payne has scored 16 goals so far this season for The North, who are currently second from bottom in the division and have just parted company with manager Garry Vaughan, who resigned at the weekend.

The 25-year-old has often played as a winger for Trafford but he can also play in a more central attacking role too. He has had a host of non-league clubs including Conference North outfits Hyde, Barrow and Colwyn Bay.

Commenting on the new signing, manager Karl Marginson said: "We are always looking to develop and improve the already excellent group of players we have and signing Shelton shows our commitment to that, even in the middle of a great run. It’s a testament to the club and our supporters that a player of Shelton’s calibre has agreed to join us."

Following his signing, Payne said: "I’m really happy to be signing for FC United and I’m looking forward to working with the manager and players. I’ve known Margy for a while and that makes it easier to make the decision I’ve made. He didn’t need to persuade me too much. I can’t wait to play in front of FC’s fantastic supporters."

Payne has played in front of our supporters four times already in the last 18 months for Trafford. He scored against us on two of those occasions, so everyone at the club will be hoping he can continue finding the back of the net in an FC United shirt.

Margy added: "I expect Shelton to be in the squad for Sunday’s home game against Nantwich Town and I’m really looking forward to working with him as I’m sure all the lads will be too. We are grateful to Trafford for waiving the usual seven days notice which has allowed us to conclude Shelton’s signing in time for him to be included in Sunday’s squad for the game against Nantwich."
