Christmas Draw raises thousands for the club

FC United of Manchester has once again showed the power of fan ownership and involvement after raising close to £5,000 through the annual Christmas Draw, reports volunteeer Alex Byrom.

Thanks to the dedication of volunteers, the planning and co-operation of the organisers and the generosity of prize givers and ticket buyers, we managed to sell thousands of tickets. With some money still to be added, we have raised £4,800, a magnificent total.

Around £1,530 was raised on the day of the draw, at the New Year’s Day home match against Trafford. To raise that much on the day of the draw, when money has been spent on Christmas presents and New Year festivities shows how remarkable the fans of FC United are. It’s a testament to the generosity of the fans, and of course the passionate ticket sellers, that such a feat could be achieved.

Around 5,000 tickets were sold with many fans buying several books and spending hundreds of pounds of hard-earned money supporting a good cause, something the club just couldn’t do without.

16 supporters got their hands on some great prizes. Jenny Latham was the winner of the main prize, a week’s holiday at a three-star villa on the Costa Brava, Jane Ellicot won tickets to a concert at the Cardiff Arena, Kieran Douglas won the Jimmy Carr tickets, A Mrs Lynch won the Professional Pamties Drill, the tickets to see Dynamo the magician in concert was won by Gibbo (Mr Gibson) and Theresa Latham picked up the Spa treatment prize.

Ticket number 11245, which was sold on the day, has won the Eric Cantona t-shirt, Charles Huber won himself a L’Oreal gift bag, Aiden Hopson won the leather handbag, the year’s pass to Funkademia was won by won by Steve from the Trafford branch, with Craig Wilson winning the J O’Connor family portrait. Mike Turton won the celebration cake, the meal at the Swan and Cemetery winner was Nicola Davies, the Rose ‘n Bowl meal winner was Graham Crean, Bonner won the Christmas hamper and finally Gary Rochford was the winner of the signed Matty Wolfenden picture.

The money from the draw will go towards club funds and is always a welcome boost at this time of year. Despite the club switching from one “home??? ground to the next, first Stalybridge Celtic and now Curzon Ashton, the commitment of the fans to get involved has achieved this great fundraising effort. With Broadhurst Park just weeks away from completion, it shows how far fan-owned fans can go.
