Betting Integrity Rules 2014-15 - advice for co-owners

From 1st August 2014, players, managers, club employees and match officials are not allowed to place any bet on any football matter.

It is clear that our employees, manager and first team players are subject to this ban, but for consistency and protection of their own position, the Board have agreed that ALL players, in any FC United team will be advised that club rules ban them from such betting activity. This has been included in the players’ codes of conduct for the season 2014-15.

For all others involved with our club, FC United of Manchester have asked both the FA and Supporters Direct for guidance on how these new rules should be applied to fans-owned clubs.
Until we have further information, we advise all co-owners, especially those in volunteering roles, to be cautious if considering betting on any football activity.

Summary of key information from the FA:
The FA have published some background information here.
This betting ban includes not just domestic matches and competitions in England but any football worldwide. This applies to all clubs at Step 4 or above (FC United are at Step 3). This does not just apply to the results of games, competitions or events that take place in them, it also covers other football events such as manager appointments and player transfers. These rules apply to bets made in person, online, on the telephone or with friends. Participants are also not allowed to instruct any third party to place any bet on their behalf.
