FC2K: Let's claim back our crowd crown

FC2K: Let’s claim back our crowd crownAt FC United we rightly pride ourselves on the level of our support, but this weekend another club chalked up the league’s highest attendance of the season.

Chorley’s home game against Skelmersdale drew an impressive 1,968 fans to Victory Park and the highest gate in our league so far this season.

Attendances are traditionally higher in the second half of the season and we have 11 home games left to make sure that this season is no different. As highlighted in the launch of our FC2K campaign (see headline news story), our crowds have slipped slightly this season due to a number of factors. With the run in to the end of the season and the new ground on the horizon now is not the time for complacency.

So the message is clear, get yourselves to that football ground and show once again that FC United still have the best fans at our level and among the highest crowds in non-league. We can’t let our rivals usurp us now can we?

By staying United we can easily get an average of 2,000 for each of the remaining games.

Here are the stats to show who was the top five best-supported clubs from this past weekend’s fixtures:

Grimsby Town (v Gateshead in Conference Premier): 3,243
Chester (v Barnet in Conference Premier ): 2,179
Maidstone United (v Metropolitan Police in Ryman League) : 2,019
Chorley (v Skelmersdale in NPL): 1,968
FC Halifax Town (v Aldershot Town in Conference Premier): 1,769

FC’s average home crowd so far this season is 1,657. This is the 13th highest in non-league and hugely impressive for our level of football. Those 12 clubs with bigger average crowds all are former League clubs. If we hit our 2,000 target we will achieve the same average as last season.
