FC United ready for trip to Whitby Town

FC United ready for trip to Whitby TownFC United travel to Whitby Town on Saturday looking to get back up the Evo-Stik Premier Division table and avenge a dismal 3-1 defeat at the hands of The Seasiders at Gigg Lane back in September.

The Reds started 2014 sitting pretty in fourth place but due to two postponed fixtures, against Trafford and Chorley, we have played just one league game so far this year and have now dropped to ninth. Winning our games in hand would send us up to third, such is the tight nature of the division but, for now, Karl Marginson’s side will be looking no further than the tricky trip to 10th placed Whitby.

Before September, FC United had never lost to North Yorkshire side, having met them on 10 separate occasions since 2008. But despite lots of success at home, the Reds have found Whitby a tougher test at the Turnbull Ground with three draws and two narrow 1-0 victories.

United would certainly take another 1-0 victory on Saturday, although having scored 25 goals in our last 10 matches, the players may be confident of netting a few more.

The good news for United is that centre-back Charlie Raglan expects to be fit after shaking off a knock, which saw him limp out of Tuesday night’s Doodson Sport Cup victory at Ossett Town, Jerome Wright gained a valuable hour of football at Ossett following three months out with a broken arm, and Adam Jones is available for selection to replace the suspended Tom Davies, if required.

Margy said: "It’s been frustrating to have two games postponed whilst we’ve been on a good run of form but that’s football. I was pleased with how the lads responded to going a goal down on Tuesday night and hopefully they’ll play like that from the off on Saturday. If we play like we can, we’re good enough to beat anyone at this level."

Whitby versus FC United is this Saturday at the Turnbull Ground at the supporter-friendly and traditional kick-off time of three o’clock. It’s pay on the gate as usual. Get yourself to that football ground.
