FC United looking to close the Worksop gap

FC United looking to close the Worksop gap FC United are looking to extend our unbeaten run to eight games and move within a point of fourth placed Worksop Town on Saturday afternoon when we welcome the Tigers to Gigg Lane.

The Reds are undefeated in the Evo-Stik Premier Division since losing 3-1 at home to second place Skelmersdale on 15th October and as such have shot up to fifth place in the table.

After slumping to four league defeats in five autumnal weeks, United’s form picked back up in November and we confirmed we are back in the race for promotion by impressively defeating fellow contenders Blyth Spartans 3-0 last Saturday.

Now Karl Marginson’s side must keep the momentum up by taking points from Worksop and third place AFC Fylde. Margy said: “We have now gone seven games unbeaten and it has put us right back in the mix. There was a dark spell when we weren’t getting the rewards our play deserved, but we stayed together and kept believing.???

Margy has been boosted in recent weeks by the return of several players from injury and suspension and he has strengthened competition for places by signing two creative midfielders in Joe Fox and Nelson Mota.

Goalkeeper James Spencer is back fit again and played 90 minutes in the Doodson Sport Cup victory over Ashton United on Wednesday night whilst centre-half Adam Jones will be hoping to pull on a red shirt again very soon after gaining match fitness at Nantwich Town, where he scored a last minute for the Dabbers last Saturday against Trafford.

However, both players may have to wait because goalkeeper Jon Worsnop and the centre-back partnership between Charlie Raglan and Tom Davies is looking as solid as ever, conceding just three goals in the last five games.

Margy is understandably delighted about the progress made over the last six weeks. He said: “The lads really believe in what we’ve been doing in training and finally we’ve started to get our rewards on the pitch. We’ve got to continue playing like this, get that bit of luck and we’ll be in the mix for promotion come April.???

FC United of Manchester versus Worksop Town is this Saturday at Gigg Lane at the supporter-friendly and traditional kick-off time of three o’clock. It’s pay on the gate as usual with prices voted for by our members; £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
