Club Statement

In light of considerable speculation about events at Saturday’s match, the club wish to make the following facts clear.

FC United were informed that a group of individuals believed to be hostile to the club were on route to Gigg Lane.


Following consultation with the police, a decision was taken to seek the assurance of the group that they were attending with the sole intention of watching the match before they were given entry to the ground. The club had a duty to the 3000 supporters in attendance to establish all the facts and importantly the intentions of the group in question.

When the group were prevented from entering by the police a member of FC United staff was called outside. Once their intentions were made clear they were given permission to enter the ground. The group then declined to enter and left.
