Reds eye first win with Bank Holiday double-header

Reds eye first win with Bank Holiday double-headerFC United are looking to record our first win of the season this weekend as we welcome Stamford to Gigg Lane on Saturday afternoon before making the short trip to Trafford for a local derby on Bank Holiday Monday.

Following last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Worksop Town, the Reds gained our first point of the 2013/14 campaign with a goalless draw on Tuesday night to title favourites AFC Fylde. Now Karl Marginson’s side will be looking to kick on and keep up with the leading pack by getting some proper points on the board over the weekend.

Despite languishing in 20th place after two games, Margy knows that it’s early days and has been encouraged by what he’s seen overall during two tricky fixtures. He said: “The standard of football we all witnessed during Tuesday’s draw with AFC Fylde is something we can be very proud of. I thought it was a fantastic performance and the only frustration is that we didn’t score and win the game.

“The only factor we could improve on is our finishing. I am not worried in the slightest though, as I really believe it will come. Hopefully, we will keep the quality up as we welcome Stamford to Gigg Lane and, if we do, we’ll be looking to continue that again Shawe View on Monday.???

United expect to have a fully fit squad to choose from over the weekend. Striker Michael Norton and new right-back Liam Brownhill both limped out of the action on Tuesday night but Margy says they will both be fit for Saturday.

He said: “Liam just had a bit of cramp and Norts got a dead leg in that challenge but they will both be fine, it’s nothing serious for either of them.???

FC United versus Stamford is this Saturday 24th August at Gigg Lane with kick-off at the traditional time of three o’clock. It’s pay on the gate as usual with £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and just £2 for under-18s. We then travel to Trafford for another three o’clock start on Monday afternoon where it’s also pay on the gate. Get yourself to those football grounds.
