FC United aiming to seal play-off place on Tuesday night

FC United aiming to seal play-off place on Tuesday nightFC United will gain a place in the Evo-Stik Premier Division play-offs for the third consecutive season if we beat Ashton United on Tuesday night.

With three league games to go, the Reds are just one win away from booking a place in the end of season play-offs where they will have a chance to compete with three other clubs for the second promotion spot into the Conference North.

The Reds secured a priceless victory over Worksop Town at the weekend via a Matthew Wolfenden strike and are now just three points away from securing a record points total in the division. Incidentally, Saturday’s match winner and our top-scorer these season is now seeking his 50th goal for FC United. Meanwhile, Dean Stott is likely to make his 100th appearance for ther club.

Manager Karl Marginson said: "Three points is the target and the sooner we get them, the better. Results went our way on Saturday but we still had to make sure we won ourselves.

"I thought we played some good football in patches and, despite the nerves and the way Worksop lined up, we kept at it and were rewarded for our persistence.

"It took a really good goal to break the stalemate. The move was fantastic and Matthew Wolfenden’s finish was top class."

Unfortunately, Margy confirmed that last season’s Russell Delaney Supporters’ Player of the Season, Adam Jones is facing a long lay-off. He said: "Adam has ruptured his Achilles and will be out of action for up to six months, which is a huge blow. However, we will now see the benefits of having such a good squad.

"Although it is undoubtedly a bad bit of luck for us, I am confident we can reshuffle and continue. Jonesy will still be heavily involved with the squad and I hope his attitude and presence around the dressing room will inspire the others to close the deal on a play-off place and then, hopefully, we can go on to have a good crack at promotion."

Get yourself to that football ground on Tuesday night and sing the lads into the play-offs. Another adventure awaits.
