FC United ready for promotion clash with Witton Albion

On Saturday Witton Albion make their second attempt to play FC United at Gigg Lane this season, the first game having been abandoned on Boxing Day due to torrential rain.

The visitors are sixth in the league and it will be a tough game for FCUM. In fact it’s one of the biggest games for some time, as a win for FC would cement a place in the play-off postitons, but defeat could allow other teams to overtake us.

The games over Easter, when nine goals were scored, will have done wonders for the confidence of the team and so the lads will go into this game believing that they’ve recaptured the form they so recently showed. The squad has been strengthened and Oliver Banks, signed from North Ferriby, has already grabbed his first goal.

Manager Karl Marginson said: "We scored nine goals in two games over Easter and that will hopefully do a world of good for the confidence of the squad. Those two games have put us back in an excellent position in the play-off places.

"We welcome Witton on Saturday and they are hot on our heels in terms of league standings. We have previous with them after they knocked us out of the cup, albeit illegally as it has since been found. So we will be using that defeat to motivate our lads.

"They gave us a good game at their place in August too. They are a good side and it will be a real test of our promotion potential. We have home advantage so need to get on the front foot immediately.

"Hopefully, we will get a good crowd to cheer us on. It is the usual cliché from me but you really do give us that extra advantage and that will be key for us as we continue our push to get out of this league."
