Margy has headache ahead of Buxton trip

FC United expect to play our first league game for three weeks this Saturday when we take on Buxton at Silverlands and according to manager Karl Marginson, the Reds are ‘chomping at the bit’ with a virtually fully-fit squad creating lots of selection headaches.

The only absentee is Carlos Roca, who has struggled for fitness since returning from an ankle injury, meaning that there is strong competition for first team places.

United go into the game in seventh place having won seven of their last eight games with a game in hand over nearest rivals Buxton, who are just one point ahead in sixth position. The Bucks should provide a tough test for United though because they too are in a rich vein of form – unbeaten in their last eight league outings with five wins and three draws.

Margy said: “The lads are chomping at the bit to play some football. We had the cup game at Ashton in midweek but it feels like we haven’t played in the league for ages. Apart from Carlos, who’s seen a specialist today, everyone is available so it’s lots of headaches for me. Good headaches though.???

Margy says that striker Tom Greaves has been settling in at the club well since his move from Bradford Park Avenue and he is looking forward to having the option to play him alongside Michael Norton in a 4-4-2 system if required.

He said: “It’s the first time since Ben Deegan was at the club that we’ve got two out-and-out strikers in the squad, so it’s good to have that option. But we have lots of options and we’ll use whatever players and formations we think are necessary on a game by game basis.???

Buxton versus FC United of Manchester is this Saturday at Silverlands, Buxton at the traditional time of three o’clock and it’s pay-on-the-gate. Get yourself to that football ground.
