Youth Democracy Initiative in Manchester

As a democratically-run football club, we are very pleased to support the efforts of Manchester City Council to increase the involvement of young people in the city in structures that make decisions about services and especially the ones that affect young people.

We are, therefore, keen to promote the new City Council Youth Panels to our members aged 13-19 who are residents of the City of Manchester. (Please note, this does not mean having a Manchester postcode, this means you live in a house where the council tax is paid to Manchester and not to Trafford or Tameside or somewhere like that).

The council is setting up five Youth Panels who will, in turn, each elect 3 Youth Councillors. Youth Panels will have a direct say in the funding of youth projects in their part of Manchester. Youth Councillors will attend and be invited to address council meetings that make decisions about the allocation of resources across the city. Youth Panels will meet roughly once a month.

Our feeling is that the programme is being organised in an imaginative and exciting way so that it will be an interesting thing to get involved in, you will learn stuff, make friends and it will also look good on a c.v., job application, college or university application form etc.

If you, or if somebody you know, is interested in finding out more about getting involved in their local youth panel then either;

Email Robin Pye at robinpye@fc-utd.co.uk stating your name, address and postcode, contact details and the words, ’I give you permission to pass my contact details onto my local Youth Panel organiser’ OR

Text Robin Pye on 07794122602 stating your name, address and postcode and the words, ’I give you permission to pass my contact details onto my local Youth Panel organiser’.
