Get Ready for Red October - FC United on stage

A brand new bite-sized play about FC United’s famous FA Cup night in Rochdale in November 2010 is set to premiere this October as part of the show, ’JB Shorts 8’ at Joshua Brooks in Manchester.

Actor/writer and FCUM Radio commentator James Quinn has penned the play, ’RED’, featuring a fictitious couple, Graham and Claire on that famous bonfire night. Graham is a die-hard FC fan while Claire, whose first footballing allegiance remains with Man United, is preparing her bid for a VIP catering contract at Old Trafford. As the match unfolds, the pair joust about the politics and morals of FC and modern day Premier League football, with contributions from FC and Manchester United, the ’voices’ of the two clubs.

’Red’ is part of an evening of six 15-minute plays which make up ’JB Shorts 8’. All the plays are written by established TV writers. Many FC fans have become devotees of JB Shorts, whose launch back in March 2009 featured James’s TV post-match punditry spoof, ’At The End OF The Day’ starring John Henshaw.

As dozens of FC fans will testify, JB Shorts is always a great night out, £6 on the door (a pound a play!), starts 7pm and ends by 9pm. You get three short plays then an interval followed by 3 more plays - and you can take your beer in (including perhaps one of Joshua Brooks’s new selection of Real Ales?).

It really is an excellent night out and for 12 days in October you get the chance to see FC United on the stage. So, get yourselves down to Joshua Brooks from 9-20 October to make sure you don’t miss out. Get there early though as there is no advance booking for JB Shorts. The venue only seats around 90, so come early with your £6 in hand to avoid disappointment!
