Youth weekend double win.

In the first of a double header weekend the young reds were given a helping hand from Richard Smith, Connor Naughton, Theo Kidd and Matthew Boland. A stiff test against another open age side was passed with a 3-1 win.

FC were quickly out of the blocks, scoring after six minutes as a defence splitting ball from Connor gave Theo the chance to run at the home goal keeper, taking the ball past him before calmly slotting home.

Matthew Boland had the ball in the net a minute later after an exchange with Theo but the effort was ruled offside by a keen eyed linesman.

The game continued with both sides creating chances and Rochdalians equalising midway through the half. The teams went into the break level although the last real action saw Andy Lee come close with a shot; a touch by the home keeper onto the bar and out for a corner.

With nine FC substitutions at various stages in the second half the reds were able to make fitness count as Mike Taylor scored on 73 minutes and Theo Kidd in the 82 minute gave the reds a deserved win; although it has to be said the home side battled hard and the game could have had a much higher scoreline. Jonathan Poizer was particularly unlucky as the game drew to a close. Given a run on goal from a pass by Mike Taylor he was fouled on the edge of the box as he prepared to shoot. He picked himself up to take the kick and hit the outside of the post.

Tomorrow sees a contest with two under 18 sides at Storthes Hall Park Campus in Huddersfield; postcode HD8 0WA kicking off at 2pm. The lads returned with a comfortable 3-0 win with goals from Kial Callacher, Kane Hughes and a penalty from Daniel Maynard. A 15th minute short corner routine found its way to Kial who fired home. The only question is how it took until the 86th minute for the second goal to come. Andy Lee ran onto a pass and fired a drive that the keeper could only parry. The ball dropped to Kane Hughes who lobbed over the keeper. Daniel Maynard, who was a threat on the right throughout, muscled his way into the box and was fouled. He picked himself up to slot into the left corner.
