Reds aiming for sixth spot against Matlock

FC United take on Matlock Town at Bower Fold on Wednesday night knowing that a win would lift them up into sixth position above Marine and put them just one point behind Bradford Park Avenue in the hunt for a play-off place.

A victory against the Gladiators would also leave the Reds breathing down the neck of fourth placed Chorley – as Karl Marginson’s side would be three points behind the Magpies with a game in hand and far superior goal difference.

After the thrilling last minute winner at Marine on Saturday, the Reds, unbeaten in five league games, are looking to build on some good recent results. Despite obviously being delighted with the win on Merseyside, Margy knows there are plenty of important games still to come in our seventh season. He said: “The win at Marine on Saturday was fantastic.

“The spirit that we showed, the will to win, is what is going to be needed if we are to keep challenging for a promotion spot. Marine are one of our main rivals for a promotion spot and we need to make sure that we don’t drop silly points now to the end of the season.

“We have enjoyed a good win but there is a long way to go. Matlock will be another test for us. Their manager Mark Atkins has played and coached at the highest level in English football and you don’t manage that unless you know what you’re doing.

"This is one of our games in hand on a few teams around us in the table, so we need to make the most of it. We come in to the match confident but it’s a long season and there is a way to go yet.???

FC United expect to have a fully fit squad to take on Matlock on Wednesday night and left-back Lee Neville is available again after completing his four match suspension for being sent off twice.

FC United of Manchester versus Matlock Town kicks-off at 7.45pm this Wednesday at Bower Fold in Stalybridge, it’s season ticket number 15 and pay on the gate with the usual prices, £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and just £2 for under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground and cheer your club towards the play-off places.
