Frickley Come Dancing - CYCM

Let’s hope they have no cha-cha-chance to rumbaway with the paso doble over us this week, as Gigg Lane opens its doors to the winners of our cup clash on Tuesday, Frickley Athletic.

There will be a members’ meeting in the Bury Social club from 10am, with the latest stadium updates, but Course You Can Malcolm, the pre-match club night in the afternoon, will be open as usual from 12pm on Saturday. We are offering poetry, music and a one-off beer brewed especially for Malcolms.

We happily welcome back Mancunian wordsmith, Mike Duff. His poems and writings have touched many hearts in our dear city, as well as further beyond, with a book even translated into French. Sacre bleu, you don’t want to miss what he has to share with us this time.

Music will be provided by the much-fancied Mount Fabric, who will be entertaining us with stuff from their album ‘Secretly an astronaut’, before they head off to the US for some gigs out there. Apparently: “Mount Fabric are nothing to do with fabric, or how to mount it. They are falsetto, reverb, toms, distortion, effects, shattering highs and abusers of all things classic. They are not afraid to be different, nor do they particularly try to be.???
Furthermore Music-News.com described them thus: “Mount Fabric are held together and taken to the next level by strong cult vocals, catchy melodies and beautiful executed dynamics. This is a band for those who appreciate music that isn’t afraid to be different and clearly contains a vast amount of love and thought in its creation.???

They tell us they are currently putting the finishing touches to their next single ‘Curves and Corners’, as well as preparing for their first US shows in Los Angeles at the end of March. They also have another EP planned for this year. We are chuffed to have them.

As well as poetry and music, there will also be a liquid homage to be enjoyed called ‘This brew of ours’. “The whole intention from my perspective was to try and give something back to CYCM which has given me so much pleasure since I have been going, and hopefully a tasty beverage for the people who frequent the fine establishment??? says Fraser Rettie, the brew- master of our special offering from ‘The three Tenas’- table this Saturday.

The FC United member and owner has brewed up a one-off CYCM Indian Pale Ale. “Fresh, raw ingredients were used in this IPA. Single malted barley (Maris Otter) and single hop (Simcoe) give the beer its features,??? he says. “It was dry hopped as well, which means that after the initial stage of fermentation is complete, more hops are added to the fermenter???. This magical potion had a final gravity of 1.013 which gives an alcohol content of about 5.78 per cent.???

The love for beer and footballing redness comes out in the brew as well, as the Australian smiles when he says: “You might also want to mention that we brewed 18.78 litres.???
That’s not all, he has grabbed CYCM’s resident master of beer, Blaine Emmett and FCUM stalwart Chris Small to brew another special. “We’ve just brewed a breakfast stout too,??? finishes Mr Rettie. Coffee, beer and bacon in a bottle? Aaaaaaawwww…

What a fantastic day this will be, then. Our very own IPA, Duffy’s poetry, Mount Fabric’s music, with the usual suspects serving up food, drinks, team-sheets, programmes, fanzines and maybe some Margynally funny stuff. I’ll be there, but you know what they say, ‘It takes two to tango’…

Usual door policy applies – members only, with one guest per member. Doors from 12pm…
