Nomadic United look to overcome Horsfall hoodoo

Assistant manager Roy Soule is confident ‘nomadic’ FC United can win at Bradford Park Avenue’s Horsfall Stadium on Thursday night for the first ever time and at the sixth attempt to progress to the Evo-Stik play-off final on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Reds have suffered defeat on their last three visits to Bradford but Soule believes the team have got what it takes to change the trend and he declared playing away from home is not a cause for concern.

Soule said: “We’re up for it, we’re ready and we’re confident. We don’t mind who we play or where we play them. We’re a nomadic team, we’ve not got a home of our own so we play wherever we have to.

“Bradford will be a home from home for us on Thursday night because we know our supporters will create an atmosphere that will make it feel like a home game.

“Just because we haven’t won there before has no bearing on this match. We’ve proven this season, by getting results at places like Rochdale and Brighton, that we have nothing to fear. If we are good enough on the night we will win. It’s as simple as that.???

The only injury concerns for FC United are David Chadwick and Ben Deegan who were both kept out of Monday’s home defeat to Kendal due to slight strains. However, Soule is confident both will be passed fit to take on Bradford.

The Reds go into the game with just two defeats in their last 20 games, although perhaps worryingly they have both come in the last four matches.

Bradford, meanwhile, are undefeated at the Horsfall since February but they have come unstuck there in the league five times this season. Perhaps tellingly, Avenue’s home defeats have come in big matches against the league’s top sides and their local rivals with Halifax, Colwyn Bay, North Ferriby, Frickley Athletic and Ossett Town all triumphing.

Bradford Park Avenue versus FC United of Manchester is this Thursday at the Horsfall Stadium with kick-off 7.45pm. It’s pay on the gate. Get yourself, your friends and your family to that football ground. FC United are two wins away from promotion to the Conference North.
