Sing when you're learning,..

...you only sing when you’re learning...

At today’s match with Kendal we are delighted to welcome young people from three primary schools in Manchester who will be singing football songs before and during the game.

As part of a special music project, FC United has teamed up with the Manchester Music Service and children from three Manchester primary schools - Christ The King in Newton Heath, Ashbury Meadow in Beswick and St Anne’s in Ancoats. The children have been working with staff from Manchester Music Service on a series of singing sessions based around FC United chants. Funding for the project was provided by the City Council’s Cultural Regeneration Team. They all had a visit from Karl Marginson to talk about the club to begin with and they’re finishing the project by coming along to today’s game.

The children have really enjoyed learning new songs and can’t wait to get to the game to perform live. Andy Spearpoint from the Manchester Music Service said: “It’s been great to see how well the kids have got stuck into it and they’re really looking forward to performing for the crowd at the Kendal game. I have to warn you though that they are ear meltingly loud!???

The three ‘choirs’ will be practicing in the social club from 1pm onwards and will then give an outdoor concert before the match to fans on their way into the ground from around 2.30pm. During the game they will be attempting to get the whole crowd singing the song they have learned as well as joining in the other songs during the match.

Do make sure that you support them by singing along during the match. And, if you see the youngsters performing before the game, please stop and watch them and give them your support. The lyrics of the songs they have chosen to sing are listed below.

Christ The King came up with this for ‘Sloop John B’

Hoist up the FC flag
See how the players set
Cheer on a brilliant team and let them go up
We wanna go up
We wanna go up
This is the best team the city has seen

Ashbury Meadow did this for ’Sunshine’

We’re always singing
We’re always cheering
We sing for FC each Saturday
We’re always scoring
We’re never boring
So please don’t take my FC away.

And St Anne’s Ancoats cooked this up for ’I don’t care if Chaddy’s Blue’

All we want is our own ground
We don’t care if it’s a million pound
We will make a wall of sound
When the FC boys are here
