Quiz raises £550 for the DF

Last Friday saw the 2nd renewal of the Inter Branch Quiz night at the Phoenix Pub in Newton Heath and hosted by the Newton Heath Branch. Last years winners “Double Carpet” rocked up to defend their trophy along with 14 other teams plucked from every layer of the FCUM set up.

A warm welcome awaited us at the Phoenix along with a free supper from the hosts, little did she know that a free supper is a licence to eat until bursting for the fcum crowd, and it wasn’t long before an emergency visit to the local chippy was necessary to replenish the already ample spread laid out for us.

Any way back to the quiz; 6 various rounds of music, sport, sheet of faces and other trivia faced the teams and “OLD TRAFFORD” as in very old members of the Trafford branch. took an early five point lead and although pursued relentlessly by the pack, the lead was enough to see them over the line in first, closely followed by “NO BAKES ALLOWED”, DOUBLE AXMINSTER” (better quality in the team this year), “JAKES CREW” and “NOT VERY GOOD CARPENTERS”) all in the play off positions.

The “Old Trafford” team was Paul Hinson, Phil Bradbury, Gary Rochford and Jon Kelly, proving that you are never too old to enjoy yourself and we hope that they all made it safely back to the nursing home. And ok the quiz team did get one answer wrong, but was there any need for the hoots of derision and outburst that followed.. one answer wrong out of 150.. it was all out of proportion.. we are still having counselling for stress.

All in all a splendid evening enjoyed by each and everyone and a big thanks to the organizers and the Phoenix people, and Mack with his specially written FCUM opus, and a mighty £550 was raised and straight into the DF fund. It wont be long (yea) before we return for more Newton Heath hospitality.
