Get yourself to the right football ground...

FC United’s next ’home’ league game against Matlock Town will be played at Bower Fold, home of Stalybridge Celtic, this coming SUNDAY 5th September, kick off 3pm.

As there are no Premiership fixtures all weekend due to the international games, this Saturday has been dedicated Non-League Day. We always like to be a bit different at FC United, so we’re extending that to Sunday (the background to playing at Stalybridge and on Sunday can be found here).

Most of what you’d expect from an FC United home game will still apply on Sunday
- Pound for the Ground halftime draw
- Full colour programme
- Membership/information stall
- Megacabin for FC United scarfs, shirts etc
- DF barrels for all your loose change

Comedy Night tickets will also be on sale from the Membership Stall or by phoning the Club offices on 0161 273 8950 or by contacting Vinny Thompson direct on 07792 833086.

Please note: The Stalybridge social club will be open through the turnstiles, although there is no facility to stage Course You Can Malcolm at Bower Fold.

Pay on the gate prices will be the same as usual, adults £8.00, concessions £5.00 and juniors £2.00.

Of course, the more people that attend our games, the sooner we can get the necessary cash together and be on our way to Ten Acres Lane and then ’home’ games won’t need to be in inverted commas anymore. For how to make this happen that bit quicker, click the following links:

By Car:

Exit the M60 at junction 24 (M67, Denton). At the roundabout join the M67. Stay on the M67 to the very end, Junction 4. At the roundabout turn left (exit 1 of 4) onto the A57 (Hyde Road).

Almost immediately, there is a mini roundabout. Turn left (exit 1 of 5) onto Roe Cross Road (A6018).

Follow this road for 1 3/4 miles passing the Roe Cross Inn on the right and through the cutting (the road is now called Mottram Road) When you pass the Dog and Partridge on the right, you will be almost there.

Bower Fold is on the left opposite a sharp right turn next to the Hare and Hounds pub.

If the car park is full, parking can be found on the streets on the right of Mottram Road.

By Train:

Trains run from Manchester Piccadilly (taking 14 minutes). The Manchester Victoria service is being a operated by bus (taking 27 minutes) this Sunday, due to engineering works. An off-peak return will cost £2.60.

From the station, it is a leisurely one mile walk or a short bus journey.

By bus:

Buses 236 and 237 from the railway station go right past Bower Fold and take 7 mins, leaving the station at 07 and 37 minutes past the hour.

On foot:

On leaving the station, turn right and walk under the railway bridge. You will pass a series of pubs and wine bars, a newsagents, a couple of curry houses and kebab shops before reaching the White House inn opposite the bus station.

Continue along this road (Market Street) with the Cosmo Bingo on your left. As you reach Melbourne Street, with the Halifax on your right, and an off-licence on the left, turn right onto Melbourne Street, and cross the bridge into the town centre.

Go right to the end of Melbourne Street and turn left at the top by the Society Rooms (a Wetherspoons) onto Grosvenor Street.

By the Stop and Rest, turn right, and cross Acres Lane at the Pelican Crossing to the Pineapple.

Turn left and stroll along Acres Lane to the traffic lights at the end (Do not confuse this with Ten Acres Lane - that’s in Newton Heath and that football ground hasn’t been built yet - but strolling along this one on Sunday will help us get there!)

At the traffic lights, turn right onto Mottram Road. Walk up Mottram road for 10 minutes, and Bower Fold is on the right.

Be prepared, the second half of this route is up hill - so break up the journey with one of many pubs along the way, ask someone nicely for a lift, catch the bus or use Sunday as a chance to get in training for that minithon that’s fast approaching!

The important thing is to get yourself to that football ground, and don’t forget, it’s a home game so season tickets can and should be used!
