In footballing circles it’s never long until the conversation turns to pies. Pies are integral to the culture of football. Big crowds are anticipated with phrases about getting more pies in. Slightly overweight players are regaled with songs about who ate all the pies. Our own club captain gets ribbed for hailing from the land of pie-eaters.

Many fans are of the opinion that the best pies we’ve had on our travels were at a midweek friendly played in our very first season against Glossop North End. This year, Glossop’s pies won an award for the best football pies across the whole of Britain, knocking Scottish Premier side Celtic into second place.

So if you want to sample Glossop’s prize pies, then get along to their Surrey Street ground on Wed 21 July 2010. There will also be a friendly game being played to keep you entertained while you eat.
