Striker Mike Norton joins FC United from Curzon Ashton

FC United is pleased to announce striker Mike Norton has today signed forms which see him joining the club from our UniBond Division One neighbours Curzon Ashton.

Norton has scored more than 200 goals during his time at the Nash, netting 41 times last season which added to his career best of an incredible 51 strikes in the 2007/08 campaign.

Norton has been a loyal servant to the Tamesiders since our formation in 2005 but, after losing out in the UniBond Divison One play-offs for the third year running this April, he has decided it was time to move on.

Manager Karl Marginson, who has long since been an admirer of the 29-year-old’s ability in front of goal, is delighted to get the former Nottingham Forest and Droylsden striker onboard permanently after Curzon generously allowed him to turnout - and score - for the Reds against St Pauli in Hamburg last month.

Margy said: "Mike’s record speaks for itself. He knows how to find the back of the net but he’s also a strong player who can hold up the ball well and link up play. He’s got years of experience and he’s a great addition to the squad."??

Norton admits being a Manchester United fan was one of the main reasons he decided to join our club. He said: "Maybe I could have gone a bit higher up but I’ll get to play in a United kit with the fans singing United songs. I’m really looking forward to that and hopefully I can help the club get promoted to Blue Square North."??

People may have noticed stories which appeared in the press a few days ago that Norton had signed, however we hope supporters can appreciate the club cannot make any announcements until everything has been made 100% official.
