Friendly v Mossley Saturday 14 August 2010

FC United will play Mossley AFC at Seel Park in the last pre-season friendly before the start of the 2010-11 season on Saturday 14 August 2010.

The last Saturday before the season starts is always a difficult one to arrange a friendly, because traditionally our League start their programme a week later than most other leagues. Therefore, we’re very grateful that Mossley, who play in the Northern Premier Division 1 North have invited us to play on that Saturday.

Mossley suffered a huge set back last season when the bad weather caused their floodlights to collapse. Clubs at our level are seldom able to cope with such unexpected financial burdens and Mossley were grateful for the help they received from Ashton United, who offered Mossley the use of their ground while they had no floodlights. In return, when Mossley had managed to replace their floodlights, they agreed to donate the gate receipts from one of their games to Ashton United’s fund, which was set up to help them overturn the unprecedented court ruling that has deemed Ashton United liable for injuries received by an opposition player in one of their games details here. FC United’s Board have already approved payment from our club of the League recommended contribution to Ashton United’s fighting fund.

We’re therefore very pleased to be doing our bit in this little circle of local clubs helping each other out, because we know Mossley’s share of the gate from our friendly will be an enormous boost after their floodlight problems. We’re hoping for a bumper crowd on what should be a fun summer’s day and Margy knows that the local derby feel to the game will mean his squad gets a good run out in the lead up to the new season.
