Unemployed? Read on!

FC United has joined with the Co-op College to offer three unemployed people the opportunity to gain new skills, refresh old ones and gain some vocational qualifications along the way.

All that is asked of you is that you are unemployed, live in Greater Manchester, can offer at least 15 hours a week of your time and are receiving benefits or are on Jobseeker’s Allowance.

FC United is a community sports club which is organised and operated democratically. It seeks to provide affordable football to all communities in the Greater Manchester area. It provides community sports coaching in a variety of settings to further healthy eating and lifestyles and social inclusion. The settings include primary and junior schools, young offender units and within projects that seek to promote social cohesion.

As part of a small project, The Co-operative College wishes to support unemployed people access volunteer work placements within the Co-operative sector.

Working closely with an employer, the college will provide the volunteers with support to eventually achieve a Work Based Learning Level 2 qualification adapted to their individual needs and capturing the skills they will learn in the job they do in their work placement. The qualification and the placement will then help individuals find a job in the Co-operative Sector or elsewhere.

FC United can offer three placements. The first will be working alongside FC United’s Community Team and the other two placements will be in the club office in Ancoats.


Volunteer: Office Administrator

Job Description


FC United seek one or two unemployed persons to work as a volunteer in the club’s office in Ancoats, Manchester. The person would undertake a variety of office tasks which would include:

1. Maintaining databases and spreadsheets
2. Answering email and telephone enquiries
3. Checking stock and deliveries
4. Preparing for match days

No previous experience of working in an office environment is needed and training and support will be provided but

The person would demonstrate:

1. A willingness to learn
2. An ability to work individually and in a small team.

Volunteer for Promotion and Evaluation of Community Work

Job Description


FC United seek a volunteer to work with the club’s Community Coaching Team. The person would:

1. Record the activities of FC United’s community coaching team in written form, and in still and moving images
2. Take responsibility for maintaining the profile of FC United’s community work on the club website, in the match programme and in the local media
3. Support collection of data which can be used to monitor and evaluate the club’s community work
4. Contribute to the general development of the club’s community work.

The person would demonstrate:

1. An enthusiasm for FC United’s community work
2. A willingness to travel within Greater Manchester to the various sites of the club’s community work
3. A flexibility of thought and action to reflect the variety within the various projects of the club’s community work.
