Friendly v Wigan Robin Park, Tuesday 27 July 2010

We’ve accepted an invitation to play Wigan Robin Park in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday 27 July 2010 at their home ground, Robin Park Arena.

Many FC United fans will be aware of this team, which began life in the same year as our club. They have close links with the originators of the respected Wigan fanzine, The Mudhutter, who have been occasional guests at Course You Can Malcolm. Wigan Robin Park is a fully members-owned club in which all their players, fans and committee pay a weekly membership fee.

The club was founded in 2005 and started life in the Manchester Football League. They quickly rose to the Manchester Premier Division and then the North West Counties First Division, which is the equivalent to where FC United started but it was called Division Two in our day.

Last season, their inaugural season in the NWCFL, Wigan Robin Park finished a respectable fifth and along the way became the first team to defeat title contenders AFC Liverpool at Valerie Park, in front of 603, their highest home crowd. Maybe we can show Wigan Robin Park an even bigger crowd when we visit in July?

Further details of the game will be announced nearer the time.
