Margy???s Christmas shopping

FC United will have a virtually fully fit squad if Boxing Day’s match at Ashton United goes ahead and manager Karl Marginson revealed he’s been doing a spot of Christmas shopping to bolster his team.

The fixture is in doubt due to heavy snow over the last few days but if it does go ahead the Reds should have everyone available other than Danny Warrender who must serve a one match suspension for picking up five yellow cards this season.

Jerome Wright’s hernia operation was a success and Margy says he is ’chomping at the bit’ to get back playing football. Wright could feature at Ashton but should definitely be available for the visit of Ossett Town on New Year’s Day.

Margy added: "Jerome’s looking forward to getting back to his best, the problem has hampered him a little bit this season, so having him fully fit will be a bit like signing a new player."

And Margy is hoping to secure some new signings for real over the next few days. He said: "We’re looking at bringing a few new faces in. I can’t say too much at the moment but we want to bring in some more experience all over the park.

"I still believe in the lads that we’ve got and I think I was right to give them their chance, especially the younger ones as that’s the ethos of this club, but it’s time to freshen things up."

Margy was able to reveal the two players who are top of his Christmas wish list but admitted even Santa could struggle to deliver them: "Eric Cantona would be nice and so would Ryan Giggs."
