Reds ready for league leaders

FC United get back to league action this Saturday by welcoming top of the table Retford to Gigg Lane and Manager Karl Marginson is urging supporters to get behind the team.

Due to runs in the FA Cup and FA Trophy as well as a postponement two weeks ago, the Reds now have six games in hand over Retford and a 19 point gap to close. A daunting task maybe but it’s one Margy is confident his side can pull off.

He said: "We need to get a couple of wins under our belts and we’ll start moving up the table. The players have got the ability to do it, now it’s about believing in themselves and putting a good run together."??

United have no need to fear the visitors from Nottinghamshire as they picked up their first point of the season against The Badgers back in August after an evenly contested 1-1 draw at Lincoln United’s Ashby Avenue.

Retford are a team in form though with four wins out of the last five and three of those came away from home. However, Margy knows that the FC United faithful can make all the difference with their vocal backing. He said: "Our supporters are fantastic. I’ve said it many times before but it really is true; they are like a 12th man.

"I hope as many of them as possible can get to the match on Saturday, get behind the team and help us pick up three points against tough opposition. We’ll get up that league table with the fans’ support."??

United expect to go into the game with no new injury concerns or suspensions. Rob Nugent got a vital half an hour of football under his belt at Kendal in the Challenge Cup on Tuesday night as he progresses from an injury which kept him out for most of November and captain David Chadwick’s hip problem is steadily improving. Jerome Wright will be the only player definitely unavailable as he recovers from a hernia operation.

FC United of Manchester against Retford United is this Saturday at 3 O’clock. It’s pay on the gate with entrance priced £7.50 adults, £5 concessions and £2 under-18s. Get yourself to that football ground.
