Youth Heights Wuther Not

The FC United Youth team continued its impressive pre-season work in West Yorkshire on Sunday. After conceding a goal for the first time against Ashton Athletic in a 2-1 win on Thursday, they were invited to far distant lands in search of some stiff opposition in the shape of Bronte Wanderers, an open aged team who play in the West Riding County League. Our lads, who are mostly just 16, gave a few years of experience to the opposition. Unfortunately the hosts were similarly generous in allowing FC to return with an 8-0 win under their belts.

Lee Hill opened the scoring in the 13th minute as he beat the keeper to a ball played into the box and was able to run round him and slot home. It was 2-0 on the half hour when Dylan Maloney finished a fine move involving Lee, and Ibukun Modupe Oje.

Shortly afterwards Bronte had their best chance of the game when a harsh handball decision gave them a free kick on the edge of the box. The kick hit the far post and spun back along the line before crossing beyond the other post for a goal kick. It was 3-0 just before half time when Ryan Lyons attempted an impression of Didier Drogba. His cross from the right wing troubled the goalkeeper enough to make spectators think it would go in. It didn’t but Lee was on hand to make no mistake with the loose ball.

Half time saw a number of substitutions but no let up on the FC pressure as Dylan and substitute Roshgar Mousa both spurned opportunities when one on one with the keeper. The scoring continued in the 56th minute when Jake Haslam took the ball away from the Bronte right back and ran towards goal. He unselfishly crossed the ball into the middle, and whilst there appeared to be enough defenders around to deal with the problem, they didn’t and Dylan pounced to score his second.

Roshgar and Josh Burke both helped themselves to a brace of goals in the last third of the game as the hosts were unable to cope with the pace of the game. Josh with two fine examples of long range shooting as tired defenders failed to close him down and Roshgar, either side of these, with a fine turn and shot from a tight angle and a tap in when having followed in another shot from out of the box he was on hand when the keeper could only parry.
