United looking to leapfrog Pitmen

FC United travel to promotion rivals Hednesford Town on Saturday knowing that a third straight win would see them leapfrog their opponents and could lift them back into the play-off places.

The Reds are still waiting on confirmation of results of a knee scan for top scorer Kyle Wilson but club captain David Chadwick will be available after shaking off a calf strain and so will striker Carl Lomax who missed Tuesday night’s victory over North Ferriby United due to a family emergency.

Confidence is riding high in the camp after two comfortable 2-0 victories in a week, the first against Frickley Athletic, and manager Karl Marginson is looking forward to the challenge. He said: "Hednesford are a good side, very dangerous up front, but North Ferriby and Frickley were both on good runs before we beat them and we believe we can beat anyone on our day."??

The Pitmen led the UniBond Premier Division for the majority of the first half of the season but a disastrous last five weeks has seen them defeated on six consecutive occasions - the rot only stopping last Saturday with a 3-0 win at Marine - and they are now just two points ahead of FC United.

The Reds will be boosted by the news that the Pitmen’s joint leading goal scorer, Tyrone Barnett is suspended for Saturday’s fixture after being sent off for violent conduct during their recent 3-0 defeat at Bradford Park Avenue. However, Ross Dyer has also found the back of the net 24 times this season so United’s defence is likely to be in for a busy afternoon.

More team news will follow as we have it.

Hednesford Town versus FC United of Manchester is this Saturday 21 March at Keys Park with kick-off 3pm and it’s pay on the gate. Get yourself to that football ground.
