Reds ease to victory over Frickley

First half goals from Danny Warrender and Simon Carden saw FC United ease to a 2-0 victory over Frickley Athletic at Gigg Lane on Saturday but the Reds should have had more goals in an entertaining game.

The win keeps United in touch with the pack of teams who are chasing promotion, although with four points now the gap they will need more performances like this to get back into the play-off places.

Warrender headed a superb opening goal on 28 minutes - finishing off a move that he had started. The right-back won the ball in the middle of the park and surged forward after laying it off for Jamie Baguley. Baguley pushed the ball out right for Adam Carden, who beat his man for pace before whipping in a great cross for Warrender to get on the end of with a diving header.

Then, three minutes before the break, Simon Carden doubled the lead with a lovely chip after being put through one-on-one with the keeper by a sublime through ball from Warrender.

United should have added at least one more with Carlos Roca going close on a number of occasions but despite the missed chances they will be pleased to secure their first victory for three weeks.
