FC fans praised

Witton Albion’s acting chairman Mark Harris contacted the club to pass on his thanks to FC fans for their conduct at Saturday’s game.

Mark said: "I would like to offer my thanks and congratulations for the superb way in which your supporters conducted themselves at Witton on Saturday. Although we had no reason to expect FC fans to give us any problems, the sheer numbers provided plenty of challenges that - thankfully - we were able to meet. It would be churlish not to acknowledge that the financial support generated by playing your club is very welcome, however I just wanted to express my own best wishes for the overall experience yesterday provided, which was simply first-class.

"Having lost the match despite enjoying the best of the play would be, for many fans, a bitter pill to swallow. However, FC supporters conducted themselves impeccably and were a credit to their club, the league and semi-pro football."

"Our stewards reported not one incident or any nature and the whole day was everything our game should be about. There was passion in abundance, noise, rivalry commitment and controversy; however there was also friendship and camaraderie too."

"I wish you all the very best for the remainder of the season; I now feel a little less shamed of our dreadful showing at Gigg Lane earlier in the season! I hope that officials and all FCUM supporters received a warm and friendly welcome at Wincham Park, and would be delighted to extend the same hospitality to you at any time in the future."
