Whitby won't be witless warns Margy

FC United are hoping to get another three points on the board this Saturday when they entertain Whitby Town but manager Karl Marginson has warned against underestimating the team that are currently pointless and second from bottom.

The Seasiders have suffered four straight defeats losing 2-0 at home to Buxton on the opening day of the season, then on the road 1-0 to Frickley Athletic and Matlock Town 2-0, before another home defeat on Bank Holiday Monday to Kendal Town where they narrowly lost out 3-2.

But Margy, who will give a late fitness test to Jerome Wright, said: "I wouldn’t read anything into the league positions at this stage of the season - teams are still settling down. Whitby will want to get their season up and running with a win and there’s no better place to come in this league than Gigg Lane in front of 3,000 supporters. It gets the best out of players."??

Marginson has been pleased with some of the football his team have played so far but knows they can do better. He said: "It’s early days and we’ve made an okay start. Nothing magnificent but not disastrous.

"The lads need to start believing in themselves that they’re playing at this level because they’re good enough to be here. I thought we played exceptionally well at Buxton and we played well for the first 30 minutes against Boston before we went a goal down. We need to start putting that together now and performing like that on a more regular basis."??

Wright impressed as a second half substitute against Boston and played for 60 minutes against Flixton on Wednesday night. Margy will wait until the last possible minute to decide whether the winger will feature in his team or on the bench on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Adam Carden has returned to light training but is unlikely to be back in contention for at least another week whilst Rhys Hardie’s competitive debut has been further delayed after the young forward damaged his knee ligaments during the Valley Road friendly.
