MANCAT youth team in narrow Semi Final defeat

FC United’s MANCAT youth team lost 2-1 to Thatcham Town Academy in the Football Conference Youth League (FCYL) Semi Final play off yesterday, 30 April 2008, after playing half the game with only 10 men. They qualified for this play off by winning the Northern section of the FCYL and by the luck of the draw our youngsters had to travel all the way to their opponents’ home at Thatcham, near Newbury in Berkshire.

Nick Swirad who plays centre back for the team sent us this report in his own words - we’ve tidied it up slightly for the benefit of those who can’t read a 17 year-old’s text speak.

"We played Thatcham Town at their ground and we lost 2-1. We took the lead in the 1st half, then they equalised but a few minutes before half time one of our midfielders made a tackle in the box and won the ball. The ref let it go but the liner gave a pen and got our player sent off, so they scored with their 2nd shot of the game! Second half we dominated the game and they didn’t have one chance. We had everything, but didn’t finish our chances. Everyone was gutted because we deserved to win 100% and would have won without that decision. We brought the Manchester weather as well "¦ never stopped raining the 2 days there. Everyone had a great time though."??

Commiserations to Nick and his team mates.
