Match Report

Northwich Victoria came to the Lancaster Club on the back of a win against title challengers Warrington last week. Their tenacious approach on a difficult pitch paid dividends as they went away with a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw.

The young reds started brightly, forcing several corners in the first ten minutes but without truly troubling Ben Crellin in the Northwich goal. That was though put right in the twelfth minute, Lewis Adams, playing in the centre of defence found Yousif Yousif with a long ball, he headed on to get Daniel Maynard clear of the defence and he threaded the ball low past Crellin; who for the remainder of the game provided a considerable barrier.
The game wasn’t played on the usual pitch as Avro’s took priority, playing Skelmersdale in the NWYA Open Cup. As such the reds were unable to make their usual high tempo game count in the face of dogged Northwich defending. Indeed with players enjoying time with the English Colleges side and a County side victory against Liverpool, Sunday’s game did seem a game too far as chances were few and far between, A Liam Ellis shot from a Jon Poizer corner was possibly the only other shot on target.

Northwich equalised ten minutes into the second half when Jamie Weeder struck a fine long shot into the top corner. In truth that was the last real chance as both sides struggled to create chances and the game staggered to a draw.
