FC UNITED of MANCHESTER ACADEMY 'A' TEAM 0 UCFB 11

FC United of Manchester Academy 'A' team went down to a heavy 0-11 home defeat on Monday morning in a challenge match against an older UCFB side featuring former FC United youth team players Mason Walker, Jan Palinkas, Dylan Blackledge and Max Lewens. The writing was on the wall after just 4 minutes when a Matthew Barnes effort hit the foot of the post before rebounding clear but it wasn't long before the visitors took the lead, the same player MATTHEW BARNES scoring on 12 minutes. On 18 minutes, it was 0-2. Home goalkeeper Lenny Fieldhouse managed to parry a Dylan Blackledge shot but WILL OZONO was on hand to net the rebound. JOEL MILLS added a third on 23 minutes before WILL OZONO made it 0-4 on 37 minutes with a close range effort that just about rolled over the line. The same player might have completed a first half hat trick but his 42nd minute spot kick was well saved by Lenny Fieldhouse in the FC United goal. But there was still time for UCFB to add a fifth before half time when JOEL MILLS made it 0-5 on 44 minutes. WILL OZONO wasn't to be denied his hat-trick with the sixth goal of the game within two minutes of the second half restart. MATTY SHAW made it 0-7 on 49 minutes with a shot from the edge of the area and MATTHEW BARNES bundled home goal number eight on 57 minutes. A flurry of substitutions helped to temporarily shore up the FC United defence but it was only a matter of time before JOEL MILLS made it 0-9 with a close range finish on 75 minutes for his own hat-trick. At the other end, Mason Walker pulled off a fine save from Inioluwa Gbadegesin to prevent the FC United Academy team from getting on the scoresheet. DENZEL KUZAKWAWO then added a tenth for UCFB with the minutes ticking down before EMANUEL FERNANDEZ (o.g.) unluckily diverted the ball over the line for the final goal (0-11) in the dying seconds. A big defeat, certainly, but FC United played with spirit against bigger, stronger, older opponents and were somewhat unfortunate to go down by such a wide margin.
