AFTER NORMAL TIME AND EXTRA TIME. NANTWICH TOWN YOUTH WIN 4-3 ON PENALTIES.

FC United of Manchester Youth went out of the FA Youth Cup at the First Qualifying Round stage by the narrowest of margins following an epic three hour clash against Nantwich Town Youth at the Weaver Stadium on Wednesday evening.

In a ding-dong encounter, the Dabbers went 1-0 up on 27 minutes when CALLUM PARKER fired home from the edge of the area from a Henry Waterer corner.

The Young Reds drew level on 38 minutes when CONNOR MELLING rose highest to head home from a Dylan Blackledge corner.

In first half stoppage time, Nantwich Town Youth regained their lead when CALLUM PARKER took advantage of a quick breakaway and a defensive mix up to add his second.

But on 54 minutes, FC United equalised again. Caleb Adenuga sent in a low cross from the left and FENTON SCOTT was in just the right place to steer the ball home from close range.

The two sides couldn’t be separated after that and the tie went to extra time, but there was to be additional late drama when half the Weaver Stadium floodlights tripped out five minutes into the first period of extra time, resulting in a twenty minute delay before the lights (or most of them) eventually came back on again.

And so to penalties. FC United had one spot kick saved whilst another clipped the crossbar and went out of play. However, Reds ’keeper Mason Walker came to rescue with two smart saves, which meant sudden death with the penalty score now 3-3. Unfortunately for FC United, Olly Hawkins saved their sixth kick which meant that when Nantwich’s Josh Hewett stepped up and scored his, the home team were through by four kicks to three and now host Ashton Athletic Youth in the next round on Wednesday 2nd October 2019..
