FC UNITED of MANCHESTER ACADEMY 'A' TEAM 5 BLACKBURN ROVERS COMMUNITY TRUST UNDER 17s XI 4
A goal by Dylan Blackledge in the 90th minute was just enough to see FC United of Manchester’s Academy ’A’ team register a narrow 5-4 home friendly win against an equally-matched Blackburn Rovers Community Trust XI on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Friday afternoon.

The visitors had started by far the brighter and opened the scoring early on when DOM BARNES burst through the home defence before blasting the ball past Mason Walker.

Just before the half-hour mark, it was 2-0 to the visitors. After a home attack had broken down, the Young Rovers counter-attacked quickly; LUKE CASSIDY beating the FC United offside trap before finishing easily.

On 37 minutes, FC United pulled one back. MASON BEARD collecting the ball deftly before finishing well from the edge of the six yard box.

On 41 minutes, the home side snatched an equaliser. Hamza Sabati cut inside along the right goal-line before setting up OLIVER HOLT who curled the ball home from the edge of the penalty area.

The purple patch for the home side continued when, less than a minute later, they went 3-2 up, Hamza Sabati this time setting up MASON BEARD for his second.

And on 43 minutes, it was 4-2 when MASON BEARD completed his hat-trick with a well struck effort that flew into the Blackburn net off the foot of the post.

Into the second half, and the visitors were gifted a lifeline when Michael Olayinka conceded an unnecessary penalty on 69 minutes which SAUL OLDHAM gratefully tucked away.

And the comeback seemed to be complete when LUKE CASSIDY netted from a long range free-kick on 71 minutes to make it 4-4.

But there was still time for DYLAN BLACKLEDGE’s last minute winner as he got the final touch to Ellis O’Reilly’s right wing cross to make the final score 5-4 to the Young Reds.

The FC United of Manchester Academy ’A’ team are next in action with a home league fixture against Abbey Hey RSC Men’s 1sts on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday 5th December 2018 (KO 1.30 p.m.)
