A below-par performance by FC United of Manchester Youth saw the Young Reds go down 0-2 against City of Liverpool FC Youth at Heron Eccles Playing Fields in their latest National League u19 Alliance Division ’J’ league fixture on Wednesday afternoon.

Both teams had cancelled each other out during the first half, Dillon Kirkman going closest for the visitors with a 29th minute effort that was comfortably saved by the home ’keeper.

It was City of Liverpool FC who eventually opened the scoring on 54 minutes. The home side counter-attacked quickly from an FC United set-piece that had broken down, allowing HACI OZLU to nip in and score from close range via an upright.

And on 70 minutes, it was 2-0 for the Merseysiders. The same player was fouled by Mason Breeze inside the penalty area. Although goalkeeper Tom Bamber managed to parry HACI OZLU’s spot kick, the City of Liverpool FC forward was first to react and sweep the loose ball home.

The result leaves FC United of Manchester Youth in 5th position in the National League u19 Alliance ’J’ Division and next week they travel to 4th placed Chester FC Youth in another ’J’ Division league fixture.
