FC United beat Salford City to progress to Manchester Premier Cup semi-finals
FC United progressed into the semi final of the Frank Hannah Manchester Premier Cup with a deserved 3-0 victory at Salford City.

Tom Greaves used his squad including Sam Baird, Kieran Glynn and Mike Jones all starting the game, and it was FC who started the game on the front foot taking the game to the home side though Salford had the early chances with Dan Thompson-Edwards forcing Lloyd Allinson into a save, pushing the ball over. On 11 minutes Mark Shelton forced another save from Allinson who tipped the ball onto the bar and over for a corner.

At the other end Glynn saw a shot pushed wide by Tony Aghayere and Jones saw a shot flash just past the post. It was an action packed half with Salford just the better side and it certainly didn’t prepare anyone for what was to come in the second half.

With eight minutes on the clock FC took the lead when a great ball from Connor McCarthy fed Jason Gilchrist who finished as we all know he can firing into the bottom corner. Five minutes later the lead was doubled when Glynn was played in, he coolly finished past Aghayere.

At the other end Allinson had to save well from a Jake Beesley header. On 65 minutes a lovely FC move saw McCarthy cross to Gilchrist who volleyed into the goal.

Both teams continued to look for goals Dom McHale shooting wide when well placed and Tom Walker firing just wide after a great move from FC United.

The win was well deserved with many FC players catching the eye, causing manager Greaves a selection headache for the game on a Saturday against Telford.

Website man of the match - Mike Jones. Many candidates but Jones caught the eye with a busy midfield performance, breaking up Salford attack’s and using the ball well in possession.
