Match Report
TRAFFORD COLLEGE ALTRINCHAM MEN’s 1sts 3 FC UNITED of MANCHESTER ACADEMY ’A’ TEAM 4

It is something of a footballing cliché that a victory can, on occasion, be snatched from the jaws of defeat and so it proved at Long Hey Playing Fields, Altrincham on Wednesday morning when a goal by Lewis Williams in the third minute of time added on was just enough to see the FC United Academy ’A’ team win an eventful game against Trafford College Altrincham Men’s 1sts by the odd goal in seven.

The FC United Academy ’A’ team had opened the scoring on 12 minutes when a long pass from Ben Fletcher set up HARRY KERSHAW to slot the ball home.

The home side then equalised on 30 minutes when Nick Dominick failed to deal with a rather tame OLIVER SPRATT effort which should perhaps have been comfortably saved.

The FC United Academy ’A’ team kept their heads up and regained their lead on 43 minutes when MICHAEL PATTERSON scored from close range to make the half-time score 2-1 in favour of the Young Reds.

That lead wasn’t to last very long as OLIVER SPRATT pounced to equalise again on 57 minutes before Nick Dominick then redeemed himself with a penalty save on 61 minutes to deny Spratt his hat-trick.

The home side remained on top for most of the second half and it wasn’t a major surprise when ALEX OWEN eventually edged Trafford College Altrincham 3-2 ahead with just five minutes remaining.

The FC United Academy ’A’ team were staring defeat in the eye at this stage, only for HARRY KERSHAW to snatch an equaliser on 89 minutes and then for LEWIS WILLIAMS to grab an unlikely winner in the 93rd minute.
