FC UNITED YOUTH 4 GATESHEAD YOUTH 3

FC United Youth recorded a hard-fought 4-3 home win against top-of-the-table Gateshead Youth in the Football Conference Youth Alliance on the Broadhurst Park 3G on Wednesday afternoon.

The visitors opened the scoring after just 3 minutes when their No. 4 Nick Cassidy ran through unopposed to slot the ball into the home net.

FC United roared back and equalised from the penalty mark on 10 minutes after Cameron Horner had been downed in the box; Robson Buckley blasting home the resultant spot kick.

Just before half-time, Gateshead regained the lead when No. 6 Ross Colquhoun side footed home from close range.

On 71 minutes, substitute Jack Ward made it 2-2 when he controlled a high ball before firing past the Gateshead ’keeper.

And on 76 minutes, Jack Tinning made it 3-2 when he steered a loose ball into the corner.

Gateshead weren’t finished yet, however, and on 78 minutes, No. 8 John Ackroyd headed home from inside the six yard area.

At this stage, it was anyone’s game, and it was FC United who took all three points when Sam Hadfield-Summerbee grabbed an 81st minute winner following fine build-up play on the left from Kamahl Fuller.

The win keeps FC United Youth in second place in the FCYA league table, on equal points with Gateshead Youth, who remain in pole position with a superior goal difference.
