New FC United Website Makes A Big Impression

14 February 2010

FC United of Manchester’s website has proved a hit since its Christmas re-launch, with more than one million page views in January alone.

Unique visitor numbers have increased by ten per cent from 192,000 in November to 212,000 in January. The most popular pages are proving to be the club news pages and the club shop. The new-look website went live on Christmas Day with particular improvements including a cleaner layout, easier navigation and better video links. There is a new section where would-be volunteers are encouraged to put forward their details and get involved in helping to build and strengthen the supporter-owned club, together with a more detailed set of pages looking at the club’s highly acclaimed community work.

A media section offers links to FCUM TV and radio (including the new weekly programming schedule, with content generated entirely by supporters), and the latest media releases and coverage.

The website has been designed to be easier to use for people viewing it on mobile phones and under future improvements the club hopes to use new software to make it more accessible for people with sight and hearing difficulties. FC United’s general manager Andy Walsh said: “The new website has been designed and built by our volunteers and it’s a big improvement – the figures speak for themselves. “Added to that, the current huge interest in the model of supporter-owned clubs against the backdrop of enormous debt in top-flight football means our website is an important resource for those wanting to know more about how we run our club for the benefit of our supporters.”
