After a run of three games away from home, FC United return to Gigg Lane action on Saturday with Worksop Town the visitors. With an unbeaten run that stretches back to the start of the decade, the Reds will be looking for three vital points as well as revenge for a 3-1 defeat the last time these two teams met at Ilkeston. On that night, Rob Nugent was sent off early in the game and FC never really recovered, conceding a 1st half header as well as two break away goals in the 2nd half. Adam Tong scored a consolation header.
 
Thanks to draws against Stocksbridge and Frickley as well as a scrappy win at Durham and a superb demolition of The Dabbers in foggy Nantwich, confidence will be sky high in the squad. Kyle Wilson properly announced his arrival back at the club with a superb hat-trick whilst Ben Deegan had probably his best game in a red shirt and both will be looking to continue at Gigg. With the 6-1 win in Cheshire, FC climbed to the heady heights of 12th and with games in hand the play offs are firmly in sight and that push must continue against lowly Worksop Town. Worksop come into the game in 17th position with 25 points from their 22 games played.
 
Margy was delighted with the performance on Saturday and believes that the bad luck that seemed to be all too regular for the 1st half of the season may well be on the change. He said "I wasn’t at all surprised by the fantastic goal haul at Nantwich on Saturday, as I’ve been saying for a while that we were close to hitting our best form. Everyone performed at their best and we really clicked. I think we saw signs that the rotten luck we have suffered this season may have changed for the better. Kyle Wilson’s first goal came after the ball rebounded straight back to him, when in the early parts of the season it would have spun out of play for a corner.

The fact the referee didn’t abandon the match due to the thick fog was also proof of our changing fortune."
 
He was also impressed by many of the performances, especially his forward players, "Obviously Kyle will get the plaudits for his hattrick, but it was his all-round game that impressed me the most... Ben Deegan was also non-stop in his effort and he kept it simple, which is what we have been telling him to do.
 
Phil Marsh was another impressive performer playing on the right hand side."
 
And he is expecting a better performance than that at Ilkeston earlier in the season, "So let’s hope we can make it three in a row [today] against Worksop. They may be below us in the league, but they have already given us a good beating this season.

We were terrible and it was one of the worst FC United performances so far in our history. We couldn't even pass the ball from A to B and had no pattern to our play.

In the 1907-08 season, the club reached the First Round Proper (the equivalent of the modern day competition's Third Round), and were drawn away against Chelsea. Although losing 9-1, the game drew an attendance of 70,184, a club record which still stands today.

Another cup run occurred during the 1920-21 season, with Worksop becoming one of the famous FA Cup minnows by holding Tottenham Hotspur to a 0-0 draw at the Division One side’s White Hart Lane ground. The replay was controversially held at White Hart Lane for financial reasons, and saw Worksop lose 9-0. Supporters showed their disappointment at playing the game there by staying away from subsequent home matches, an action that for a time saw the club’s debts mount.
 
The club's home ground from 1992 to 2008 was Sandy Lane. As a result of being locked out in April 2008, the club no longer has use of the ground. In 2008-2009, they shared with Hucknall Town, thirty miles to the south, losing much support in the process. Hucknall terminated the agreement in May 2009mainly due to the two clubs playing in the same league in 2009-10. In June 2009, a new groundsharing arrangement was reached with Ilkeston Town, also over thirty miles south.
 
In early 2009, tentative plans for a new ground were announced in the local paper, the Worksop Guardian.
 
The club boasts former England international Chris Waddle as an ex-player, playing 60 games.
