NEW SIGNING: Connor McCarthy

We are delighted to announce the signing of 22 year old, centre forward Connor McCarthy who joins us after leaving Telford last season.



We are delighted to announce the signing of 22 year old centre forward Connor McCarthy who joins us after leaving Telford at the end of last season.

The Liverpool-born striker played for Prescot Cables before joining Skelmersdale United in March 2013. Whilst at Skem, McCarthy played against FC United in their 2-1 (last minute) win at Bower Fold in October 2014. (Incidentally also playing for Skem that day was one of FCs latest signings - full back Danny Wisdom.)

In February 2015 McCarthy signed for National League outfit Southport where he would make 14 appearances in the remaining games of the season.

In 2015/16, he made 9 appearances but only started in 2 games for Southport, before joining Telford in two loan spells (Sept-Dec & Feb-May). Whilst on loan at Telford he was the Bucks’ top scorer and featured in the two league matches against FC United.

Returning to Southport for the start of the 2016/17 season he made 5 appearances before joining Telford on a permanent deal in September. The following month McCarthy scored the only goal of the game in Telford’s 1-0 home win against FC United with a stunning strike.

McCarthy was a favourite amongst the Telford faithful due to his fantastic work rate and commitment to the cause, however he later struggled to cement a permanent place in the side. In February 2017 he spent 1 month on loan to Warrington Town, before being released by Telford at the end of the season.

On his signing, FC United Manager Karl Marginson stated that “Connor is a young lad who we’ve been impressed with in the games against us since his time at Skem and Telford. He has a wealth of experience at such a young age and his impressive work rate will set the tone as an example to the rest of the team???.
