FC United's European weekend hosts 4 matches across 5 days

FC United’s European weekend hosts 4 matches across 5 daysFC United host SV Austria Salzburg on Saturday 4th February kick-off 5pm – This is just one of 4 matches taking place at Broadhurst Park as part of FC United’s 5-day European festival of Football and Beer.

Between Friday 3rd February and Tuesday 7th February, FC United of Manchester will be hosting four games, a beer festival and a live gig, with hundreds of European football fans joining FC United supporters for a weekend of celebration of Fan Ownership in football.

FC United Manager Karl Marginson said “SV Austria Salzburg is a supporter-owned club just like FC United and born out of protest following a takeover just like FC United, They will be bringing at least 250 supporters and we’re expecting scores of fans from other clubs across Europe to attend. So the players are looking forward to another big occasion following on from the 4,000 fans we packed in versus Salford City last Saturday.???

The friendly kicks off at 5pm on Saturday 4th February to allow Salzburg fans enough time to arrive in Manchester that afternoon. Anyone arriving earlier in the day will be able to watch FC United’s reserves play Hyde United’s reserves at 2pm on the 3G pitch at Broadhurst Park.

Supporters can also watch a live gig featuring Space Monkeys, (the last band to sign for Factory Records) followed by Schutzei, the Salzburg terrace guitar legend, at “Course You Can Malcolm???, FC United’s volunteer-run afternoon club night, from 1pm-5pm. CYCM takes place in two-thirds of the Main Stand Bar.

On Sunday, February 5th it’s FC United’s Women v Egerton Ladies at 2pm on the 3G pitch, then on Tuesday 7th February ko 7.45pm FC United First XI host West Didsbury & Chorlton, in the Semi-Final of the Manchester Premier Cup.

The gate receipts for the FC United v SV Austria Salzburg match will be split evenly between the two clubs. Turnstile Number 4 at the St. Mary’s Road End of the ground is our designated DF turnstile, where fans are encouraged to add an additional donation on top of the match admission price to help raise money for the club’s Development Fund.

In keeping with the European feel of the weekend, we will also be collecting foreign currency in aid of the FC United Development Fund. We reckon everyone has about £20 of foreign currency in their bedside table / drawer downstairs doing nothing which FC can turn into cash. We have a company which converts it and with the low value of the £ against foreign currencies it is an idea time to drop in all that left over currency - coins and notes into the barrels that are positioned throughout the ground.

Meanwhile, FC United’s Beer Festival runs from Friday to Tuesday, offering more than 20 ales and ciders from local breweries, to Essenburger Austrian lager in honour of the visitors.

We have teamed up with a number of local breweries including: Joseph Holts, Bootleg Brewing Co.,Three B Blackburn, Fuzzy Duck, Greenmill, Great Orme, Kirby Lonsdale and Bank Top.

Board Member Jim Brunt who has helped organise the friendly with Salzburg spoke with Ben Hughes from FCUMRadio to explain the how the fixture came about and the activities planned for the Beer Festival.
